Winston is a female Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot. She was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina in 1986 and joined our reception staff in 1993. She has an extensive vocabulary which includes some very off key renditions of “Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear”, Monty Python’s “I’m a LumberJack”, and “Amazing Grace”. She helps answer phones, remodels the covers on files and disciplines any unruly technicians that she chooses to dislike that particular day. She has performed at many social events and school
functions throughout the years. When not on duty in the front receptionist area, she relaxes in her luxury quarters in the Avian Boarding Facility near the front of the clinic. If you visit Winston be careful not to get too close, as she is sometimes prone to biting anyone that isn’t her best friend for that particular day.
Lenny the Bearded Dragon lives in the display aquarium at checkout during the day and has a warmer, night cage to accommodate his biologic need for staying warm. While his name is a little intimidating, Lenny is very sweet. When alarmed, he will puff up and make his spines very stiff so that picking him up is a little like handling a pin cushion. He is mostly a vegetarian, but his favorite treats are mealworms and crickets. Bearded dragons make excellent pets as long as they are kept warm, are handled frequently and have access to direct sunlight or an ultraviolet light source. They mature out at about 20-24inches in length.
Fiona joined the Fleming Island staff in 1996. As a young cat she was quite active and was returned to the clinic by several potential adoptive families after attempting to destroy their homes. She occupies a primarily supervisory role over the technician staff. Her duties involve patient observation from her bedroom in the treatment area, food quality inspection (she breaks into food bags if not fed enough), couch inspection in exam room 3, and laboratory supervision atop her perch on the blood cell counter in the Lab. While her true heritage is unknown, common belief is that she is of royal descent as evidenced by her demeanor and attitude.

Other frequent visitors to our clinic include Gator the greenwinged macaw and Quigley the australian cattle dog that belong to Dr. Curtis, and Noah, Dr. Lowry's Ibizan hound.
